- 2 tbsp unsalted butter

- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

- Preheat oven: Set to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Prepare cream mixture: In a saucepan, melt butter and sauté garlic for 1 minute. Add cream, milk, salt, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Warm gently (do not boil).
- Layer: Arrange sweet potato slices in layers in the baking dish, sprinkling cranberries between layers.
- Add cream: Pour the warm cream mixture evenly over the sweet potatoes.
- Top: Sprinkle Gruyère and Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Serve: Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with thyme if desired.
Notes
For a sweeter version, add a drizzle of maple syrup. For extra texture, sprinkle chopped pecans on top before baking.
