- 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup water or chicken broth (optional, for steaming)
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving drippings in the skillet.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add fresh green beans and toss to coat in bacon drippings.
- Add 1/4 cup water or chicken broth, cover, and steam for 5–7 minutes until green beans are tender but still crisp.
- Remove lid, stir in cooked bacon, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot as a Southern-style side dish.
