Fresh Southern Green Beans with Bacon

  • Author: Recipe Inspire
  • Total Time: 20–22 minutes
  • Yield: 46 servings 1x

Description

Tender fresh green beans sautéed with crispy bacon, onions, and a hint of garlic — a classic Southern side dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup water or chicken broth (optional, for steaming)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving drippings in the skillet.
  2. Add chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add fresh green beans and toss to coat in bacon drippings.
  5. Add 1/4 cup water or chicken broth, cover, and steam for 5–7 minutes until green beans are tender but still crisp.
  6. Remove lid, stir in cooked bacon, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot as a Southern-style side dish.

Notes

Use fresh green beans for the best flavor. Adjust cooking time depending on desired tenderness.
