- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- For the Frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream or milk
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- Red or pink gel food coloring (optional)
- Festive Christmas sprinkles for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; beat until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Roll dough into large balls (about 1/4 cup each) and slightly flatten onto baking sheets.
- Bake for 10β12 minutes, just until edges are set but centers are soft. Let cool completely before frosting.
- For frosting: beat butter, powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract until creamy. Tint with red or pink coloring if desired.
- Frost cooled cookies generously and decorate with Christmas sprinkles. Let frosting set before serving.
