- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans or almonds, toasted
- Optional: festive sprinkles for topping
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a heavy saucepan, melt butter, sugar, and salt over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture reaches 300Β°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract carefully.
- Quickly pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them melt for 1β2 minutes, then spread evenly with an offset spatula.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts (and sprinkles, if using) over the melted chocolate.
- Cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate until firm. Break into pieces and serve.
