  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups fried onions (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Blanch green beans in boiling water for 3–4 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté onion and mushrooms until tender, about 5–7 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and stir for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Slowly add broth and cream, stirring constantly until sauce thickens.
  6. Add soy sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix in blanched green beans.
  7. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish and top with fried onions.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  9. Serve hot as a classic Southern side dish.
