Description
Zucchini Bun Hot Dogs are a fresh, low-carb twist on a summer classic! Juicy grilled hot dogs are served inside tender zucchini ‘buns’ — a clever, gluten-free alternative that’s packed with flavor and crunch. Great for cookouts, keto lunches, or healthy weeknight meals.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium zucchini
- 4 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional toppings: mustard, ketchup, relish, diced onions, shredded cheese, pickles
Instructions
- Prep the Zucchini Buns: Slice off the ends of each zucchini, then slice in half lengthwise. Use a spoon or melon baller to scoop out a shallow channel from each half to cradle the hot dog.
- Season & Grill: Brush zucchini with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill zucchini and hot dogs over medium heat for 4–5 minutes per side, or until grill marks appear and zucchini is tender-crisp.
- Assemble: Place each hot dog between two zucchini halves. Add desired toppings and serve immediately.
Notes
For oven roasting: bake zucchini halves at 425°F (220°C) for 12–15 minutes. Choose straight, medium-thick zucchini for best bun shape. Perfect for keto, Whole30, or gluten-free diets.
