- 1 and 1/2 cups peeled & chopped apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1/3 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Batter:
- 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk, at room temperature
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Mix the apples with brown sugar and cinnamon and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add eggs, applesauce, and vanilla and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
- Pour half the batter into the pan, add a layer of the apple mixture, and then top with the remaining batter.
- Swirl the batter with a knife to create a marbled effect.
- Bake for 60-75 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
