Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Whisk in the remaining sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 3–4 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle. Cut into 2-inch squares.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry dough squares in batches for 1–2 minutes per side, until golden and puffed.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Generously dust with powdered sugar before serving.
