- Preheat oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Prepare cake batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add dry ingredients alternating with milk, mixing until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly into prepared pans and bake 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Make frosting: Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and spreadable.
- Assemble cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting evenly over the top. Place second layer on top and frost the top and sides.
- Decorate: Insert heart-shaped lollipops evenly around the top. Sprinkle with Valentine’s-themed decorations and optional edible glitter.
- Chill for 30 minutes to set frosting, then serve and enjoy!
Notes
For a more colorful cake, divide the batter and add a few drops of food coloring to create rainbow layers. Frosting can be piped decoratively using a piping bag for extra flair.
