How to Make 7 Irresistible Tree Meringue Cookies at Home!

  • Author: recipeinspire
  • Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Yield: 24 meringue cookies 1x

Description

These Tree Meringue Cookies are crisp, light, sweet, and adorably festive—perfect for Christmas cookie trays, gifting, or topping holiday desserts. Made from simple whipped egg whites, sugar, and a touch of vanilla, they bake into delicate, melt-in-your-mouth Christmas trees decorated with sprinkles or edible glitter!

Ingredients

Scale
    • For the Meringue:
    • 3 large egg whites (room temperature)
    • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Green gel food coloring

  • For Decoration:
  • Holiday sprinkles
  • Gold or silver sugar pearls
  • Edible glitter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until foamy.
  3. Add the cream of tartar, then increase speed and beat until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  5. Mix in the vanilla and green food coloring until evenly tinted.
  6. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  7. Pipe tree shapes by squeezing three stacked layers: large base, medium middle, small top.
  8. Add sprinkles or sugar pearls to decorate.
  9. Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and let the cookies sit inside for another hour to dry completely.
  10. Remove, cool fully, and enjoy your festive tree meringue cookies!

Notes

Ensure your bowl is completely clean and grease-free—any fat prevents meringue from whipping. Use gel food coloring, not liquid, to avoid thinning the mixture. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week. Do not refrigerate, as humidity softens meringue.
