Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
- 3–4 tbsp milk
- Extra sugar for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Gradually blend in dry ingredients, adding milk as needed to form soft dough.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in extra sugar. Place on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on wire racks.
Notes
For decorated cookies, allow them to cool completely before icing. Dough can be chilled for easier handling.
