Ingredients
Scale
- For the Salisbury Steaks:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- For the Gravy:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined, then shape into 4 oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add butter, onions, and mushrooms. Cook 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in flour and cook 1 minute to form a roux.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer until thickened.
- Add the patties back into the gravy and simmer for 10–12 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Notes
For extra flavor, caramelize the onions longer before adding mushrooms. You can also use ground turkey or chicken. Make the gravy thicker by letting it simmer uncovered, or thinner by adding extra broth. Great for meal prep!
