Description

These baked mashed potatoes are rich, creamy, and irresistibly smooth. Topped with golden, melted butter and baked to perfection, they make the ultimate comfort food and perfect side for holiday meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 lbs russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: chives or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Boil potatoes: Place cubed potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, add a pinch of salt, and boil until tender, about 15–20 minutes. Drain well.
  3. Mash and mix: Mash potatoes with 3/4 cup butter, milk, and sour cream until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bake: Transfer mashed potatoes to the prepared baking dish. Dot the remaining butter on top. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and slightly crispy on top.
  5. Serve: Garnish with chives or parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

For extra richness, use a hand mixer to whip the potatoes until super creamy. You can also sprinkle shredded cheese on top before baking for a cheesy twist.
