  • 1 pound ground beef (lean is preferred)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix (or homemade taco seasoning)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat. Break it into smaller pieces with a spatula as it cooks.
  2. Once the beef starts to brown and has released some of its fat, add the finely chopped onion to the pan.
  3. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and the onion is translucent.
  4. Drain any excess fat from the pan, if necessary.
  5. Add the minced garlic to the cooked beef and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Sprinkle the taco seasoning mix over the beef and stir to combine. If you’re using homemade taco seasoning, add it now.
  7. Pour in the 1/2 cup of water and stir well to incorporate the seasoning mix.
  8. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the taco meat for about 5-7 minutes or until the liquid has mostly evaporated and the meat is well coated with seasoning.
  9. Taste the taco meat and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.

Notes

This recipe typically yields enough taco meat for about 6-8 tacos, depending on your preferred portion size.
