Description
This Sugar Cookie Icing That Hardens is perfect for decorating cookies that need a firm finish. It dries glossy and smooth, ideal for outlining, flooding, or detailed designs for holidays, parties, and special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (or almond extract)
- Gel food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, corn syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Adjust consistency: add more milk (a few drops at a time) for flooding, or more powdered sugar for thicker outlining icing.
- Divide icing into separate bowls if using different colors. Add gel food coloring as desired.
- Pipe or spread icing onto cooled sugar cookies.
- Allow icing to dry completely for several hours or overnight until fully hardened.
Notes
Icing can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Corn syrup helps give the icing shine and firmness. For perfect outlining, icing should hold its shape; for flooding, it should flow smoothly back into itself.
