Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Hard candies (Jolly Ranchers or Life Savers), crushed
Instructions
Instructions
- Prepare cookie dough: Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add gradually to the wet mixture until dough forms.
- Chill the dough: Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut shapes: Use large cookie cutters, then cut a smaller shape inside to create the “window.”
- Add candy centers: Fill each cut-out window with crushed hard candies.
- Bake: Place cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and candy is melted.
- Cool: Let cookies cool completely on the tray until the candy hardens.
Notes
🎄 Tip: For ornaments, make a small hole at the top of the cookie before baking so you can add ribbon after they cool.
