Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate or royal icing (for spiderwebs)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in egg and vanilla until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

  6. Scoop dough into balls, place on baking sheet, and bake for 8–10 minutes until set.
  7. Let cookies cool completely before decorating.
  8. Pipe white chocolate or icing in circles, then drag a toothpick outward to create a spiderweb design.

Notes

For extra spookiness, add candy spiders or mini plastic spider decorations on top (remove before eating).
