Spiced Red Sangria brings a cozy, aromatic spin to the classic wine punch. Infused with warming spices like cinnamon and star anise, it’s perfect for fall gatherings, holiday parties, or whenever you crave something bold and comforting.

- 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (like Rioja, Merlot, or Shiraz)
- ½ cup brandy
- ¼ cup orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
- ½ cup apple cider or orange juice
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or to taste)
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 apple, sliced
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 whole star anise
- 3–4 whole cloves (optional)
- 1 cup sparkling water (added before serving)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Make the Base: In a large pitcher, combine red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, apple cider, and brown sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Add Fruit & Spices: Add sliced orange, apple, cinnamon stick, star anise, and cloves. Stir gently.
- Chill: Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors infuse.
- Finish & Serve: Before serving, remove the whole spices (optional). Add sparkling water and ice. Stir gently and serve with fruit slices in each glass.
Notes
Use a bold red wine to stand up to the spices. Want extra warmth? Add a splash of spiced rum. This sangria can also be gently heated (not boiled) for a mulled version in cooler months.
