  • ½ cup apple cider or orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or to taste)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 34 whole cloves (optional)
  • 1 cup sparkling water (added before serving)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make the Base: In a large pitcher, combine red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, apple cider, and brown sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add Fruit & Spices: Add sliced orange, apple, cinnamon stick, star anise, and cloves. Stir gently.
  3. Chill: Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors infuse.
  4. Finish & Serve: Before serving, remove the whole spices (optional). Add sparkling water and ice. Stir gently and serve with fruit slices in each glass.

Notes

Use a bold red wine to stand up to the spices. Want extra warmth? Add a splash of spiced rum. This sangria can also be gently heated (not boiled) for a mulled version in cooler months.
