  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Maple Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 12 tsp milk (optional, for thinning)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in egg, molasses, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll dough into 1–2 tbsp balls and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Flatten slightly if desired.
  7. Bake 8–10 minutes, until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  8. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar with maple syrup (and milk if needed) until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cookies.

Notes

For extra festive flair, sprinkle a little cinnamon sugar on top before baking. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
