- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract (if using) until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
- Bake 9–11 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and centers are soft.
- Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra soft cookies, slightly underbake. Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes to control spreading. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days for maximum freshness.
