Ingredients
Scale
- For the Cookies
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp red food coloring (liquid or gel)
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- For Rolling
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 2–3 minutes.
- Add eggs, vanilla, red food coloring, and vinegar. Mix until fully combined.
- Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until a thick dough forms.
- Cover and chill for 1 hour for thicker, cracklier cookies.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll dough into 1–2 tbsp balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar, then powdered sugar.
- Place on baking sheets and bake 10–12 minutes, until crinkled and slightly soft in the center.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack.
Notes
Chilling the dough helps create deeper crinkles and prevents spreading. For a richer red color, use gel food coloring. Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them soft and chewy.
