- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional garnishes: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Brown the ground meat, breaking it into small pieces. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add onion and garlic. Sauté until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
- Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute to release the spices’ aroma.
- Add diced tomatoes and beans. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Adjust seasoning to taste. Serve hot with optional garnishes.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper. This chili can also be made in a slow cooker for a richer taste.
