Description
Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe, loaded with tender sliced beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone cheese, all piled into a soft sandwich bun. Perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight dinner!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin works great)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 sandwich buns, split and toasted
- 4 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and bell peppers and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
- Cook the Beef: Increase heat to medium-high, add sliced beef to the skillet, season with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Cook, stirring frequently, until beef is browned and cooked through.
- Add Sauce: Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and simmer until the liquid reduces slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
- Assemble Sloppy Joes: Divide the beef mixture evenly among toasted buns. Top each with a slice of provolone cheese.
- Melt Cheese and Serve: Optional: place assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use hoagie or brioche buns for a richer sandwich. You can swap provolone for American or mozzarella cheese. For added flavor, mix in a teaspoon of hot sauce or chopped mushrooms.
