  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water

  • 3½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  4. Slowly stir in hot coffee until the batter is thin and well combined.
  5. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy.
  9. Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, cream, vanilla, and salt. Beat until fluffy and smooth.
  10. Frost the cooled cake layers and decorate as desired.
