- 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Pink Lady), peeled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (180Β°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, mixing until smooth.
- Pour half the batter into the prepared pan, layer with half the apples, then repeat with remaining batter and apples.
- Bake for 45β50 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
