- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
- If the dough feels too dry, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk.
- Divide the dough in half, roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing slightly apart.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until edges are set but not browned.
- Cool cookies on a wire rack before decorating.
Notes
For best results, chill the dough for 20–30 minutes before rolling to prevent sticking. These cookies are perfect for royal icing, buttercream, or a simple dusting of powdered sugar.
