Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the crumbled sausage until browned and cooked through. Remove excess fat if needed.
- Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- If using bread, spread cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish. Layer the cooked sausage and vegetables on top, then sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
- Press down gently to ensure the egg mixture seeps through the casserole. Let sit for 10–15 minutes if using bread to soak.
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until eggs are set and the top is lightly golden.
