- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded Gouda cheese
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional topping: breadcrumbs toasted in butter
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1β2 minutes to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cream until smooth. Continue stirring until sauce thickens slightly.
- Reduce heat and add shredded Gouda and cheddar cheese. Stir until melted and creamy.
- Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Combine the cheese sauce with cooked pasta and mix well.
- Optional: Transfer to a baking dish, top with buttered breadcrumbs, and broil for 2β3 minutes until golden brown.
