- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
- 5 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
- Arrange the apple slices evenly in the pie crust.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, and salt. Add eggs, milk, vanilla, and nutmeg (if using) and whisk until smooth.
- Pour custard mixture over the apples, making sure they are evenly coated.
- Dot the top with butter pieces.
- Bake for 45β50 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
- Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing to allow custard to set completely.
