How to Make Firecracker Hot Dogs on a Stick: 7 Spicy Tips!

  • Author: RecipeInspire
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Firecracker Hot Dogs on a Stick are a festive, kid-friendly 4th of July snack that’s easy to make and even easier to love. Wrapped in crescent roll dough, baked to golden perfection, and topped with star-shaped cheese, they’re fun, delicious, and bursting with patriotic flair!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 beef or turkey hot dogs
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (for stars)
  • Cooking spray or melted butter (optional, for brushing)
  • Optional: ketchup, mustard, or dipping sauces for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Insert Skewers: Carefully insert a skewer into each hot dog, leaving room at the bottom for holding.
  3. Wrap in Dough: Unroll crescent dough and cut into thin strips. Wrap a strip around each hot dog in a spiral, leaving a little space between spirals to puff during baking.
  4. Add Stars: Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut cheese stars. Set aside for after baking.
  5. Bake: Place wrapped hot dogs on the baking sheet. Lightly brush with melted butter or spray with cooking spray for a golden finish. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until dough is golden brown.
  6. Top with Stars: Once baked and slightly cooled, press a cheese star onto the top of each hot dog stick.
  7. Serve: Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces. Perfect for parties or patriotic picnics!

Notes

To make ahead, prep the wrapped hot dogs and store in the fridge up to 4 hours before baking. You can also add a thin layer of American cheese under the dough for extra flavor.
