  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 8 oz pasta (your choice)
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Melt butter with olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook until onions are caramelized, about 15–20 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes more.
  3. Pour in broth and wine, add thyme, and simmer for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Cook pasta according to package instructions and drain.
  5. Combine pasta with the onion broth mixture. Transfer to serving bowls and top with shredded cheese.
  6. Optional: broil briefly until cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot.

Notes
