- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/4 cup sugar (for macerating strawberries)
- 1 cup heavy cream, whipped

- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in milk and vanilla until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Drop dough onto a baking sheet to form 8 shortcakes. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden.
- Meanwhile, toss strawberries with 1/4 cup sugar and let sit 10 minutes to release juices.
- Split shortcakes, layer with strawberries and whipped cream, then top with remaining strawberries and cream.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a splash of lemon juice to strawberries. Serve immediately for best texture.
