  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for macerating strawberries)
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped

  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  5. Drop dough onto a baking sheet to form 8 shortcakes. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden.
  6. Meanwhile, toss strawberries with 1/4 cup sugar and let sit 10 minutes to release juices.
  7. Split shortcakes, layer with strawberries and whipped cream, then top with remaining strawberries and cream.

Notes
