  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups peeled, diced apples (about 3 medium apples)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp nutmeg or vanilla extract for extra flavor

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in melted butter until mixture is crumbly.
  3. Press about 2/3 of the crumb mixture into the prepared pan to form the crust.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss diced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, and optional spices.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture on top of the apples.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until top is golden brown and apples are tender.
  8. Cool completely before cutting into bars. Serve as is or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

You can substitute half of the apples with pears for a variation. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
