- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- For the Streusel Topping:
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Step 1 – Prepare the Crust: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Fit your pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges. Set aside.
- Step 2 – Make the Filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. Toss well to coat.
- Step 3 – Fill the Crust: Spoon the apple mixture evenly into the prepared crust, slightly mounding it in the center.
- Step 4 – Make the Streusel: In another bowl, mix flour, sugars, and salt. Cut in butter with a fork or pastry cutter until crumbly.
- Step 5 – Add the Topping: Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the apples, pressing lightly to adhere.
- Step 6 – Bake: Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. Cover the edges with foil if they brown too quickly.
- Step 7 – Cool & Serve: Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve with vanilla ice cream or caramel drizzle!
