  • Author: Recipe Inspire
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 squares 1x

Description

These Delicious French Dip Squares are the ultimate party appetizer—flaky, cheesy, savory, and irresistibly easy to make. Layers of roast beef, melty provolone, caramelized onions, and buttery crescent dough come together in a golden, pull-apart bake served with warm au jus for dipping. Perfect for game day, holidays, and crowd-pleasing gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 lb sliced roast beef
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1 packet au jus mix, prepared according to package directions (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking dish or sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions, season with salt, pepper, and thyme, and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  3. Unroll one can of crescent dough and press it into the bottom of the baking dish, sealing the seams.
  4. Layer the provolone cheese evenly over the dough.
  5. Top with the sliced roast beef, followed by the caramelized onions.
  6. Unroll the second can of crescent dough and place it on top, sealing the edges and seams.
  7. Brush the top with melted butter.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Let cool slightly, then slice into squares.
  10. Serve warm with prepared au jus for dipping.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of garlic powder or sesame seeds on top before baking. You can also swap provolone for Swiss cheese or add roasted peppers. These squares reheat well and are perfect for feeding a crowd.
