- 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans or almonds
- Optional: crushed candy canes or sprinkles for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly grease or use parchment paper.
- Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the sheet, covering the entire surface.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it begins to boil. Let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Pour the hot caramel evenly over the crackers and spread quickly with a spatula.
- Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let sit for 2 minutes, then spread evenly.
- Top with chopped nuts or festive sprinkles. Let cool completely, then refrigerate until set.
- Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.
