Ingredients
Scale
- For the Cookies
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- For Rolling
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix cocoa powder, sugar, and oil until combined and thick.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add dry ingredients to the wet batter and mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Cover and chill dough for at least 3 hours (or overnight) for best crinkles.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop dough into balls, roll each in granulated sugar, then generously in powdered sugar.
- Place on baking sheet and bake 10–12 minutes until puffed and crackled.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Chilling the dough is essential for dramatic crinkles and thick, fudgy cookies. For richer flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder. Rolling in granulated sugar first helps the powdered sugar stay bright and snowy after baking!
