Ingredients
Scale
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract (if using) until smooth.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Scoop dough by tablespoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
- Bake 9–11 minutes, until edges are set but centers are still soft.
- Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra chewiness, slightly underbake and let cookies cool on the sheet. Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes to help control spreading. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
