- 2 cups fresh or frozen cherries, pitted
- 2 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 double pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the cherries, apples, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until well combined.
- Roll out the bottom pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the fruit filling evenly inside.
- Dot the filling with butter and cover with the top crust. Seal and crimp the edges, then cut small slits on top to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 45β50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Cool completely before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
