  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onions until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  6. Top with half of the beef mixture and half of the soup mixture.
  7. Sprinkle one cup of cheddar cheese on top.
  8. Repeat the layers with remaining potatoes, beef, soup mixture, and cheese.
  9. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
  10. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  11. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

💡 Customize it! Add sliced mushrooms, substitute cream of chicken soup, or mix in a handful of spinach for extra nutrition. Smoked paprika adds even more flavor!
