  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 2 cans (16.3 oz each) refrigerated biscuit dough, or homemade biscuits
  • Optional: chopped parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned and fully cooked. Remove excess grease if needed.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir for 1–2 minutes to cook the flour.
  4. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  5. Pour half of the sausage gravy into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Cut biscuits into halves or quarters and layer them evenly over the gravy.
  7. Pour the remaining gravy over the biscuits, ensuring they are well coated.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until biscuits are golden and the casserole is bubbly.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired and serve warm.

Notes

This casserole can be assembled the night before and baked in the morning for convenience. Substitute turkey sausage for a leaner option. Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for 2–3 days.
