- 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Optional topping: powdered sugar or maple syrup
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and arrange bread cubes evenly.
- Scatter blueberries over the bread cubes.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and blueberries, pressing gently to soak the bread.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup if desired.
Notes
For a crunchier topping, sprinkle some brown sugar or streusel before baking. You can use frozen blueberries; no need to thaw. This casserole can be made ahead and baked fresh in the morning.
