  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional topping: powdered sugar or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and arrange bread cubes evenly.
  2. Scatter blueberries over the bread cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and blueberries, pressing gently to soak the bread.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.

Notes

For a crunchier topping, sprinkle some brown sugar or streusel before baking. You can use frozen blueberries; no need to thaw. This casserole can be made ahead and baked fresh in the morning.
