- 1 loaf French bread, cubed
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp butter, melted (for greasing)
- Powdered sugar or maple syrup for serving

- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and add cubed French bread evenly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour egg mixture evenly over the bread. Press gently to help the bread soak up the liquid.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, add blueberries, sliced bananas, or chopped pecans before baking. This casserole is perfect for prepping the night before.
