Description
This beloved Apple Pie by Grandma Ople is a family favorite — rich, sweet, and bursting with cinnamon-spiced apples wrapped in a golden, flaky crust. 🍎 Perfect for holidays or cozy Sunday dinners!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 double pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to form a paste, then add water, white sugar, and brown sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.
- Place the bottom crust into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with sliced apples, mounded slightly.
- Cover with the top crust, creating a lattice if desired. Gently pour the sugar-butter mixture over the crust so it seeps into the pie.
- Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35–45 minutes, until the apples are soft and the crust is golden.
- Cool before slicing. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate comfort dessert!
Notes
🍏 Tip: Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for a more balanced flavor. You can add a dash of vanilla extract or lemon juice for extra depth.
