  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Form into 4–6 patties.
  3. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes and onions.
  4. Place beef patties on top, then layer the remaining potatoes and onions.
  5. Spread cream of mushroom soup evenly over the top layer.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 60–70 minutes, until potatoes are tender and beef is cooked through.
  7. Remove foil, sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese, and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted.
  8. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, sauté onions before layering. You can also substitute cream of chicken or celery soup for a slightly different flavor.
