- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, simmer apple cider until reduced to about 1/4 cup. Let cool.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk reduced apple cider, brown sugar, applesauce, milk, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just incorporated (do not overmix).
- Grease a donut pan or silicone molds and spoon batter evenly into each cavity.
- Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 8–10 minutes, until donuts are puffed and golden.
- Brush warm donuts with melted butter, then roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
For extra apple flavor, add 1/4 tsp apple pie spice to the batter. These donuts taste best fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
